Using football as a tool for Discipleship.
Youth development through sports and evangelism is one of our top ministry priorities at Zion Hills, our proposed retreat, conference and training center which is located at the outskirts of Jos, Plateau state, Nigeria.
We are so glad to have begun engaging with young persons through football. Our sports team currently has a number of young vibrant players who are enthusiastic about being on the field and sharing warm time of fellowship with each other.
We have a sports facilitator who visits the players weekly to train and have team bonding sessions. During these sessions, the players share their personal needs, motivations, and areas they believe they need to improve on. They also advise their various team mates on how they can each work better to improve their skill and grow as a team. They usually end these sessions with prayer.
One of the testimonies that have come out of this game sessions is a Muslim team member leading the prayer session and praying in Jesus’ name. The christian teammates were shocked! But he later shared that he had heard Dr. Bitrus Audu pray that way on the day the football team was commissioned so he just picked it up and decided to pray the exact same way for the team.
We are so thankful and happy to have started engaging with young persons through football. Please pray that this will be the beginning of good things, and for guidance from the Holy Spirit as we actively explore more opportunities in developing programs that include spiritual formation, education, mission, service, and fun programs.
